Does the start of school make you set some new expectations and goals of the upcoming year ahead? I don’t think I ever made new resolutions in the month of August until I began teaching in 2006. As a teacher, it was a fresh classroom, new posters and ideas hung around the room, a new group of students ready to learn (well…not all were eager to jump back on the school bandwagon) and an “Ahhhhhhh – I got this” feeling!
Since I’m no longer teaching full-time (thanks to Thirty-One) I still haven’t gotten over the August brings a newness feeling, except instead of bringing it to my classroom, I’m bringing it to my personal aurora and my business. I’m sure the kids returning to school from summer break is a BIG contributing factor now that I have my 5-6 hours of freedom back, but there’s A LOT on my “I’m going to accomplish this list” for this upcoming school year!
For starters, I am going to focus on exercising and training for my Goofy Challenge (for those of you that don’t know what that is….it’s a full marathon and a half-marathon through the Disney World parks in January 2015), continue to work my Thirty-One in this new area and reaching a new level of success (and the Senior Executive Director title would be great too!), volunteer at the kids’ school, Junior League and I want to get involved with the Ronald McDonald House since Thirty-One donates products to the families visiting. I want to continue meeting new friends in the area, for a lunch date every now and then (who can I convince to go to the Cheesecake Factory with me?!?!). I want to substitute every now and then and I want to continue to encourage my team to work hard for what they want so they can feel a sense of accomplishment.
And that’s not all! So much to do! So much to do! What are you hoping to get accomplished from now through June 2015?!?!
I have noticed since I’ve started working from home three years ago that I’m not the best with Time Management. I think about Thirty-One, what I need to do for the kids, I need to start the laundry, empty the dishwasher, go pick up things to make for dinner….Aaaacccckkkkk! Where did my time go!!?!?!
When I taught school, everything was on a schedule and I was held accountable to the higher powers for everything I did. The *luxury* of working from home is that I can do what I want, when I want however that’s the *problem* too! While at National Conference a week ago, I had a lot of time to reflect and think about things I want to change. I realized that I need to block my day like I did when I taught…and the image of the lesson plan book from when I taught school came to me like a sign from above! I. Was. Going. To. Get. One!
On Saturday, after getting back home from National Conference and running a few errands with the family, I asked Ben to stop by the local Educational Store for a sec….(and it was not just a sec…who can stay for a second in a school supply store!?!?!)
I left him and the kids in the car – they had Dunkin Donuts and Ben had an Iced Coffee so I knew I had a little bit of time- and I quickly walked (okay, maybe I ran!) inside. I found the planner that I thought would work for me and decided I wanted and thankfully it just said “Plan Book”! YAY!
Lots of great pages inside! Of course, I tore out the substitute plan page and the seating chart. No need for thooooooseeee! :)
Now, I had to getting a bit creative to make it my own, so I added a *few* labels to make sure I was hitting my targets for the day! I’m not perfect and everything may not get done every day, but as long as I stay consistent, I know I WILL SEE RESULTS!
Hope this might help you and take a minute to read this great blog on managing your time when working from home!
Imagine leaving the store with just 1-2 Large Utility Totes in your shopping cart verses 10-12 (or more) small plastic bags and taking 1 trip into the house with your purchases. But….., you may enjoy sending the hubby or the kids out to the car to go get everything! You’ll get some interesting glances of fascination by the cashier that everything fits in it! Love using my Large Utility Totes and these are some classic fabrics that aren’t available anymore! Can you name them?
So excited that tomorrow I will be on my way to Columbus, OH to attend my SIXTH National Conference with Thirty-One! Yes, I will miss my hubby and babies….but…….. it’s NATIONAL CONFERENCE! It’s a time to spend with some of my closest friends and I’m so thankful that Thirty-One brought them into my life! It’s a time to get motivated, get new ideas and get a little me time. This year is extra special!!!!! I have a special lady that I’m rooming with this year and I couldn’t be more excited! She joined Thirty-One a few months after I did and has continued to submit her sales and be supportive in my business. She is attending her first conference with Thirty-One and she is my MOM! ♥ you Mama!!!
I love to participate in vendor events and look at my awesome find this morning from a local vendor! Lightweight and a mix of silver and gold. Love!

I love this graphic! Whether you buy from a Thirty-One consultant or someone that sells Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Stampin’ Up!, Scentsy, Origami Owl, etc… you are helping her family! You are providing her with a way to help her contribute to her family, save for a vacation, pay off a bill or two, leave an unhealthy relationship or just have some “her time”. Think about this next time you go to a “box store” that sells a similar product as sold from your favorite direct sales company. No….your consultant is not living in a multi-million dollar home, looking for her next vacation home, flying in a private jet and living in a lap of luxury, but your purchase can make her feel like the luckiest lady in the world!
